The plan for the front of the house actually spawns from the back of the house. The back of the house is in very bad shape and causing some concern to insurance agents. Based on what bad shape the rear addition is in, it doesn't make sense to put too much money or effort into fixing something on part of a building that is collapsing. Literally collapsing. So for a couple months we've been trying to appease the insurance company and the historic commission, who of course are diametrically opposed. But I think it's just a matter of time before the commission comes around to common sense.
So we began demolition of the back porch and patching other areas of concern. And when doing that, we discovered the original spindles of the back porch. Which was the most exciting find! Until we discovered small spindles and evidence of decorative brackets. So indeed I had a Victorian front and back porch. My plan to rebuild to original design was approved by the commission! Yay. So once I've addressed the emergencies on the back of the house, I'll start building the front porch and painting the house the beautiful colors she deserves. I am so doggone excited. And exhausted!
